If you were hoping for something grand, guess again. While the Note 4 is still a beast of a phone in its own right, not much has changed from the Note 3.
Here’s a list of what HAS changed, however.
- Slightly taller, slightly less width, and just a tad thicker
- Of course it’s a little heavier too, but only a little
- Fingerprint scanner
- Higher resolution, from 1080 x 1920 pixels, 5.7 inches (~386 ppi pixel density) to 1440 x 2560 pixels, 5.7 inches (~515 ppi pixel density)
- This means it’s now officially past 2k resolution display, no matter the source
- Just 32 GB or 64 GB internal space
- LTE Cat 6, or essentially LTE Advanced
- Running Bluetooth 4.1 for Low Energy
- Back to using microUSB 2.0 cords instead of 3.0
- Back camera’s upgraded from 13 MP (4128 x 3096) to 16 MP (4608 x 3456)
- Some places have this mixed up for the Note 4, it should always be width x height
- Front camera’s upgraded from 2.0 MP to 3.7 MP, plus a 120 degree panorama mode to take group shots
- Android 4.4.4, though expect the Note 3 to have this soon
- Processor/CPU/GPU – honestly I can’t talk on this one yet since we’re not sure what all model numbers will pop out and which processor will be in which model but both are top notch
- Switched Temperature out and placed in Oxygen levels/saturation and UV
- S Pen gained a few new features
- Shrinking apps into their own windows, then making them into Holo bubbles like the facebook Messenger app
- Two new writing fonts
- Much better pressure sensitivity so it feels more like writing with a pencil or pen
- Snap Note – Kinda like taking a picture of the board at school, adjusting it to face foward, moving it to your notes, and then editing it
- 7.5% less power consumption, means your battery lasts JUST a bit longer
- Optical Image Stabilization for shake free pictures and video
- Faster charging (not sure how?)
- Recording for meetings/interviews/etc. with up to 8 directions so you can focus on only what a particular person said
- Aluminum frame for a more “premium” design, and no “stiches” like the Note 3
